Hey Lionel, can I offer a quote from a regular listener for your sponsorship pitch? Like many of your other listeners I'm sure, I'm a guy in my fifties who is keen on cycling not just as a follower of the sport but as a wannabe pro and a weekend warrior. And what money I have, I definitely spend on cycling kit. I actively listen to the adverts because I know if it sponsors the Cycling Podcast it's probably something I would aspire to buying - especially if Lionel reads the ad. Rapha kit, SIS nutrition, SuperSapiens are all part of my world because of the Cycling Podcast. What's the code for the SIS nutrition discount? CP25. And that promotion finished about two years ago!

Agreed Jon! I still find myself reciting the old Rapha intro, "From grand tours to group rides and the Champs-Élysées to coffee shops..."

Interesting that you’ve never been sponsored by a bike brand - a smaller upstart company looking to break into the market.

And of course the hosts would be provided new bikes to ride around on and talk up on the show 😉

Thank you Lionel for another thoughtful piece of journalism—in the Summer of 2019 you All were my constant companions which got me through a difficult time. My wife had a very unsuspected health hiccup that lead to 4 months in the hospital.—Here in the states with political battle waging and the constant bombardment for financial contributions to win, I feel harassed at times to and guilted to provide support. Your quest for funds is ever so polite and sincere. When the Cycling Tips podcast was dismantled I stepped up to the plate and donated, for me on a pension, a large sum. They too have become my audio friends through thick and thin. Although I am not rich, I can offer the same meager support to contribute to great coverage of a sport I have grown to love.

Hi Todd, this is another very kind comment and your support as a listener is very much appreciated. To be clear, we are not at a point where we are making a crowd-funding effort or similar. We are simply re-invigorating our search for sponsorship to continue a business model we believe in and that we know works. The goal of The Cycling Podcast has always been to keep the core of our coverage free for all to enjoy. If listeners choose to support us, either by subscribing as a Friend of the Podcast or via Substack, that is hugely appreciated but it is also completely optional. So I would say, please keep enjoying the podcast and thanks for your kind words.

Hello Lionel,

I worked for Supersapiens for two years after discovering it through The Cycling Podcast. So thank you for the impact that the sponsorship and The Cycling Podcast was able to make to my life!

All the best for the sponsor search!

-Jack

As somebody who bought a Karoo 2 after hearing Hammerhead sponsor the podcast, who invested in a Laka crowdsource fundraising round having heard about them on the podcast, and who is a customer of SiS, I can vouch for the power of podcast sponsorship! Hope that the new strategy works out.
