Cozze by Amaraterra, the theme of the Giro d’Italia
Cozze by London-based pizzica band Amaraterra is synonymous with our Giro d’Italia coverage and every May we are asked for the name of the song and the band. Here you can listen to the whole song to get you in the mood for the opening stage on Saturday.
Giro dei Vini – the Girovagando wine collection
Listen to Daniel and Greg talk about the wines in the 2024 Girovagando case
As per tradition, in association with our friends at Dvine Cellars in London, we’re presenting a selection of six wines showcasing the same terroir that the Giro d’Italia will visit this month.
And, as we’ve done in other years, we’ve asked Greg Andrews of DVine Cellars to talk us through the selection on the eve of the race.
If you’re not into wine, this is not the podcast for you!
If, however, you do want to hear what Greg and Daniel have to say, tune in and then head to DVine Cellars to place an order. Cases are flying out as we speak.
The wines in the case are listed below with links to the producers’ websites. Unfortunately, Dvine’s cases are still only available to UK listeners but in many instances you will be able to find similar wines, from the same regions, wherever you are. Please enjoy in moderation!

KM0 Live with Daniel, Larry and Joe
On Monday, kicking off our week of episodes building up to the start of the Giro in Turin, we held our inaugural KM0 Live event. It was a virtual evening with Daniel, Larry Warbasse and Joe Dombrowski discussing their Giro experiences and looking ahead to this year’s race, which Larry is riding for Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale.
It was held exclusively for Friends of the Podcast and paid subscribers to The 11.01 Cappuccino and if you missed it live the audio is on the subscriber feed now.
The XL Giro preview
Online now on the free feed, our now traditional supersized preview features Daniel with Brian Nygaard, who will be joining him for daily coverage in Italy, and Rob Hatch to discuss what the race has in store. Everyone is anticipating a Pog procession with a race for second place behind him, but is that really the case, and what else is there to look forward to? We also hear from Pogačar’s performance coach Jeroen Swart and his climbing lieutenant Rafał Majka.
KM0 triple bill
There’s a slightly different schedule for KM0 at the grand tours this year, with three episodes for Friends of the Podcast subscribers completing our build-up to the Giro before daily episodes begin following Saturday’s opening stage. There will then be two episodes of KM0 during the race, released on each of the rest days.
The opening stage of the Giro falls on the 75th anniversary of the Superga disaster when a plane carrying the great Torino football team crashed into the hillside near the city. Grande Torino tells the story of one of Italy’s greatest sports teams and features John Foot and Herbie Sykes.
Love & Other Drugs transports Daniel back to 1998, the last time anyone did the Giro-Tour double. It was Marco Pantani who won the maglia rosa and maillot jaune that season but, at an impressionable age, Daniel was much more enamoured with the Giro runner-up Pavel Tonkov…
The final part of the trilogy will be out tomorrow morning (Friday). It’s called Sierra Alpha and our old friend Fran Reyes takes us behind the scenes of Tadej Pogačar’s Giro preparation work in the Sierra Nevada.
Stacy Snyder’s Giro d’Italia cups
The stunning design for Stacy Snyder’s Giro d’Italia cups tell the story of the 2024 route with the silhouette of Monviso with Turin’s Superga in the foreground, and the Pantheon in Rome. This is the sixth season Stacy has produced her bespoke ceramic cups to celebrate The Cycling Podcast’s grand tour coverage. Have you been collecting them? If so, we’d love to see a photograph. Send pictures to contact@thecyclingpodcast com. Has anyone got a complete set?
This year’s Giro cups will go on sale on Sunday, May 5 during stage two, at 10am US east coast time, 3pm UK time, and 4pm CET from Stacy’s etsy store.
Now all that remains is to say, join us on Saturday evening for our stage one episode with Daniel and Brian somewhere in Turin. Subscribe to The Cycling Podcast in your favourite podcast player to ensure you never miss an episode. The 11.01 Cappuccinoi will be back on Monday, once we’ve absorbed the opening weekend. Enjoy the Giro.
Wondering what happened to the Stacy Snyder mugs- went on her Etsy site exactly at 10 am US Eastern and nothing.
The first note of Amaraterra are playing and we arleady know that we're going to enjoy the next 3 weeks, listening to your coverage of the Giro d’Italia. You have made a very strong start this year, almost Pogadcaresc, releasing 5 very good episodes within one week. As a listener, you also need to get ready and organized for these Grand Tour Podcasts, to find the time to listen to the daily episode; it’s not easy to keep up with the pace between the professional and other familly obligations. Sometimes you need to be ready to listen to 2 or 3 episodes on the same day to make up for missed shows.
I have found your episode on the the 1998 Giro very very good. Your 1998 Giro is probably my 1987 or 1989 Tour de France, and I agree that nothing can compare with the memories of these first sports events. Also because they belong to our childhood/teenage years, and we probably tend to romanticize them...
Although my love for cycling started with the 1987 TDF (that was btw almost as good as the 1989 edition), the Giro has always been my favorite race too. I think it started with the 1988 Giro and the epic Gavia stage. I remembered reading the articles about that stage in L’Equipe the following day and it was like reading an adventure or explorer story. Incredible. Since then I have developed a kind of passion for the Dolomites or Alpine stages of the Giro...
Many thanks again for the quality of your Podcast and let's enjoy this 2024 Giro.
